Buzz Aldrin

About 5 years ago I had the privilege to photograph lunar legend Buzz Aldrin when he was promoting his Mission to Mars book in London. I had only 5 mins or so to capture a few portraits of the great man and a short moment to chat to him afterwards. Trying to think of an original question, I asked him if there was at any point during the Apollo 11 mission did he think something’s going to go wrong here and I’ll never get back to earth? He replied simply, “I am trained soldier. Soldiers are not trained to think like that; we’re trained to execute!” I like to assume he meant missions.

My brief encounter with Buzz Aldrin was warm, friendly and fascinating. A true gentleman. Not to mention a surprising amount of bling complimented by a rocket tie!
