Poetry in Motion
"Panning" is a photography technique to give the impression that an object - a runner, car or bike for example - is moving at speed. You see it a lot in Formula One.
Using a long-ish exposure (maybe a quarter or eight of a second) and steadily following the object in motion with your camera from the side, you create motion blur in the background yet the subject remains sharp (ish!). It can be very hit and miss to get it right but looks pretty dynamic when it comes off.
Here are some examples I took of mopeds in Myanmar last year.
